i think there's clear difference between astronomy and other sciences, which are invariably all about the planet we live in.

i am a strong believer in R&D, actually i believe when economy reaches certain level, innovation is the only way to grow economy further. for most research programs i have no complaint at all, but sorry, astronomy is just unique, it's kind of like advanced math, just too far from daily life.
